Ashley Saltzman, LCPC, NCC, Board Approved Supervisor
Ashley Saltzman, LCPC, NCC, is a co-owner of By Your Side Counseling Services and a licensed mental health therapist with more than 14 years of experience in the mental health field. She provides individual, couples, and family therapy for children, adolescents, and adults in Frederick, Maryland and throughout Maryland via telehealth.
Ashley has a particular passion for helping clients process trauma, manage the lasting effects of stressful experiences, strengthen relationships, and develop healthier ways of coping. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and strength-based, with an emphasis on creating a safe space where clients feel supported while working toward meaningful change.
Trauma & PTSD Therapy
Ashley is a registered Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) provider and utilizes CPT in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). CPT is an evidence-based, trauma-focused therapy that helps clients understand how traumatic experiences can affect thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and beliefs and work toward reducing the impact those experiences have on daily life.
Ashley also incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), strength-based approaches, and supportive counseling into her work, tailoring treatment to each client’s individual needs and goals.
Couples Therapy
Ashley is trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples, an evidence-based approach that focuses on emotional connection, attachment, and the patterns that can leave couples feeling disconnected or stuck.
She works with couples to improve communication, understand underlying emotional needs, navigate conflict, and build stronger, more secure relationships.
Animal-Assisted Therapy
Ashley is also trained in Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) and works with Riggins, our therapy dog, when clinically appropriate. AAT may be incorporated into therapy to support connection, emotional regulation, comfort, and engagement in the therapeutic process.
Clients must complete an assessment and receive approval before meeting Riggins or beginning AAT.
Education & Professional Experience
Ashley earned her master’s degree in the counseling track of Applied Psychology from the University of Baltimore in 2013. Her professional experience includes working in outpatient substance use treatment and outpatient mental health settings, where she has supported individuals and families with a wide range of mental health concerns.
In addition to providing therapy, Ashley is a Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists (BOPCT) approved clinical supervisor for Licensed Graduate Professional Counselors (LGPCs) and provides clinical supervision to counselors working toward their LCPC licensure.
Ashley is a member of the American Counseling Association and Psi Chi Honor Society and is also involved with Key City Rotary in Frederick, Maryland.
Outside of the office, Ashley enjoys crafting, attending sporting events, listening to true crime podcasts, and spending time with her family.
Ashley provides in-person therapy in Frederick, Maryland and Telehealth counseling throughout Maryland.
